What to Write in an Engagement Card

Sending the Happy Couple Your Congratulation Message

When close friends announce their engagement there may be many things going through your mind at once. You may have expected it, it could have been a surprise, or you could just be thinking ahead to the hen/stag party and the wonderful wedding you have to look forward to. Whatever celebratory thoughts are brought to mind, the most prominent one will be that you want to wish them well and show them how happy you are for the two of them. Yet, how does one express the correct sentiments in an engagement card, when you aren’t used to expressing yourself with words? Cast your worries to one side with our tips about what to write in an engagement card and other ways you can express your joy.

What to Write in an Engagement CardWhen a card just isn’t enough

When you are simply bursting with happiness, one way you can express this to the newly engaged couple is to send them a beautiful bouquet of engagement flowers. Have flowers delivered as soon as they announce the news and accompany the blooms with a simple but heartfelt card that says just how happy you are for the pair. Even if you don’t have much money to spare, you can still express your happiness with flowers by shopping at a cheap online flower shop that provides affordable flower delivery options. There are online florists that offer fantastic deals on same-day flower delivery and next day flower delivery, so you can congratulate your friends as soon as possible without worrying about the cost.

Sending a card in the post

When you write an engagement card it is important to realize that it will most likely become a keepsake, along with all the other engagement cards they receive, signifying the beginning of their married life together. Take your time to think about your relationship with the engaged pair, perhaps recalling the time they were introduced, or how you knew they were perfect for each other from the start. If you plan to send a card in the post, why not visit an online florist first and also send flowers by post for an extra special touch?

Perfect poetry

Many people think they can write a decent poem, but if you are planning to write a poem in an engagement card, be honest about your abilities. This could be the opportunity to write a card that will go down in history as the funniest engagement card ever, or it could result in an embarrassing reminder of that time you wrote an awful limerick that wasn’t remotely funny. If you are known for your witty lines or heartfelt poetry that is adored by all your friends, then yes, go ahead, but if this is your first attempt at writing a poem, perhaps leave it for another, less momentous occasion.

Sometimes keeping it simple is best

Not everyone can be a bard, but this doesn’t matter in the slightest. Be honest and keep the lines simple, perhaps stating how happy you are for them both and then go on to wish them well for the rest of their lives together. Take inspiration from professional engagement cards which only use a few lines to convey joy and congratulations. However, although simplicity can be effective when you are writing an engagement card, do not be tempted to simply write the couple’s names and sign your name. This could be seen as being worse than going over the top with your written sentiments as you will not have expressed how happy you are for them at all!
