Flowers to Give on St. Patrick’s DayThe Saint’s Feast Day

Every single day of the year is a saint’s day, so what makes St. Patrick’s Day so special? St. Patrick is just one of three patron saints of Ireland, yet this is the day that is celebrated all across the world, and where absolutely anyone can celebrate all things Irish. St. Patrick’s Day is on 17th March, which is said to be the day that the saint died. St. Patrick is said to have brought Catholicism to the then pagan Ireland in the 5th century. It is believed that Patrick was British, born to Anglo-Roman parents, and was kidnapped and enslaved by Irish invaders. During his time in Ireland, it is said that he “heard the call of God”, and was compelled to escape back home to become a priest. Sometime after, Patrick returned to Ireland to convert the Irish to Catholicism. Part of the legend of St. Patrick is that he cast out the snakes of Ireland, but this is, in fact, an allegory of how he drove out the pagan druids.

The Shamrock

You may already be aware that the shamrocks are heavily associated with St. Patrick’s Day, but you may not be aware of how this came to be. It's thought that St. Patrick used the three leaves of this clover plant to explain the Holy Trinity (The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit) to the pagans of Ireland. Shamrock is still sent all over the world to the Irish diaspora and worn as buttonholes at Irish weddings. Shamrock is not suitable for flower arrangements as they are tiny but should be sent in packages instead.

Forty Shades of Green

One of the ways in which the island of Ireland is often described is that it is forty shades of green. The colour green is associated with Ireland and on St. Patrick’s Day especially, this is the colour of choice. Green hydrangeas are, therefore, the perfect flowers to send on this day and can be found at reputable online florists. When you have these flowers delivered, you may choose to send them as a bouquet or even as a St. Patrick’s Day wreath complete with sprigs of the shamrock. White flowers complement the colour green so think about incorporating white roses or daisies into the display.

Flower Delivery on St. Patrick’s Day

If you are searching for the perfect flowers to have delivered to a friend on St. Patrick’s Day, pale green carnations teamed with more colourful carnations are the ideal choice. The fluffy carnation flowers are extremely pretty and look beautiful nestled beside pale pinks and even reds. Green carnations are not only the flower of choice for St. Patrick’s Day but are also traditionally given to teachers and, therefore, are a great gift for teachers on this celebratory day.
